How time flies, it has been roughly been 5 months since starting university and a lot has happened. I have completed my first semester and joined the university volleyball team. The last couple of months of training has taught me a lot about my self and the Japanese culture, which is to respect and dedicate your self truly to any task given. Adjusting to this new system was at times hard, difficult and confusing. Sometimes it is hard to keep up especially if Japanse is not your first language, however, there were people on the team that will help you when you’re having trouble. Thankfully I have very supportive team members especially the people in the same year as me. When in doubt they will try to help me and I am really grateful for that.
I am not going to lie training for me is tough I am always left tired after, but that gives me the satisfaction that I have worked hard and that I am improving step by step. I have still got a long way to go in terms of skills so I try to do my utmost to watch and get advice from the senpais. Also recently I have changed my position from left to middle, and I am thoroughly enjoying the new role! How it happened was that one day in one of the training sessions the team was talking about how we had to decide before the spring league which positions we were going to play. That leads me to think about trying other positions and seeing if I felt more comfortable and accomplished in that position, since starting volleyball I have only played left position and during high school, I was satisfied, however, coming into university I felt like I was missing something. I remember my first quick hit and felt elated, I could remember the contact of the ball on my hand as I hit the ball, and that feeling went rushing down my body and I remember I said in my head “This is what its meant to feel like. This is it!”.
